Elisabeth Sladen will be joined by her husband Brian Miller, the voice of the Daleks on Dr Who.

A mind-blowing journey through time with a spectacular programme of 'space inspired' science fiction music including Star Wars, Star Trek, The Empire Strikes Back, Thunderbirds, E.T., Close Encounters of The Third Kind, Superman and Dr Who. Legendary comedian, Ronnie Corbett, has been confirmed as a guest star for a special Red Nose Day version of the highly acclaimed The Sarah Jane Adventures.

BBC Wales are recording a one-off mini adventure to air on Comic Relief - Funny for Money airing on Friday 13 March BBC1 from 7pm.

The top rating children's drama comes from the makers of Doctor Who and stars Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith.

Executive Producer Russell T Davies said, "It's an honour to get involved with Red Nose Day, and with Ronnie Corbett, K-9 and an old enemy's return, we can promise Sarah Jane Smith's most extraordinary adventure yet!"

The BAFTA-nominated series sees Sarah Jane and the gang getting caught in a mysterious world of chases, danger, and monsters from outer space. The show has a huge following in its teatime slot on BBC One and the CBBC channel and the BBC Wales team are delighted to be contributing to Red Nose Day for a one-off mini adventure.

Written by Gareth Roberts and Clayton Hickman it also stars Tommy Knight, Daniel Anthony and Anjli Mohindra. A third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures will go into production shortly.

Current Doctor Who lead David Tennant will be presenting on the Night of TV.

K9 returns from the black hole

Doctor Who Magazine (out tomorrow) has released news that good old K9 will be back in the next season of the Sarah Jane Adventures for at least 6 of the 12 episodes

Niki Smith said "We've already got 10 scripts at first draft stage, and I can now announce that K9 is going to make a return to Sarah Jane's attic!
He's been locked away in that safe, saving the world from a Black Hole, for far too long now.
I can promise that the fun is only just beginning - just wait till he gets to meet Mr Smith properly" .

Davies lauds BBC for 'Sarah Jane' decision

The Sarah Jane Adventures creator Russell T. Davies has heaped praise upon the BBC for commissioning a third season of the family drama.

"This really is the best news," he told Doctor Who Magazine. "In an age of shrinking budgets and an ever-changing television landscape, children's TV is right at the front line, and personally I think it's one of the most vital areas to protect and nourish. So this commission is wonderful."

"We're all determined to repay Children's BBC by delivering an amazing show," Davies continued, "[and] work has been underway for quite some time in the hope of this commission and the desks are already piled high with scripts."

Davies also confirmed that he will remain as the show's executive producer, despite his imminent departure from its parent show. "I might be leaving Doctor Who," he said, "but not Sarah Jane."

Actor Nicholas Courtney was born on December 16, 1929 in Cairo, Egypt.

He is most famous for playing Brigadier (later Sir) Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart in Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures from 1968 through to 2008.

Nicholas is married and has two children. He now lives in Crouch End, North London.

He can be seen in the series finale of The Sarah Jane Adventures on BBC1, on Monday, December 15.

If you had to be stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be? Jesus Christ.

What is your biggest fear? My biggest fear is fear itself, I think.

Do you have any superstitions? Not many. In the theatre you're not supposed to quote Macbeth, nor are you supposed to whistle in the dressing room, so I don't do either.

If you could only have one song on your iPod, what would it be? La Mer, by Charles Trenet. It's a French song.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given? When in doubt, say nothing. I learned that by experience, I think.

When was the last time you cried and why? I remember crying at my son's wedding, because it was very moving.

What's your indulgence? Well, I still smoke. Not a lot though.

How environmentally friendly are you? Well, as much as the next person I suppose.

How many texts do you send in a day? None at all, I don't use texts. I only use the phone for receiving and making calls. I don't like texts, I like talking to people.

Who's the most famous person in your mobile?: You could say Jon Culshaw; I've got his number, because he used to do impressions of Tom Baker in Doctor Who.

What item could you not live without? Well, food I suppose.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? I'd like to be more ambitious, because I'm not very ambitious, would you believe.

Where are you going on holiday? Well, I go to various places, it could be the Canary Islands or it could be Morocco.

What were you doing this time yesterday? This time yesterday I was writing my foreign Christmas cards.

What will you be doing this time tomorrow? This time tomorrow I'll be going up to the West End for a meeting with Equity, which is my union.

'Brigadier' dreams of 'Doctor Who' return

Nicholas Courtney is keen to reprise his role as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart on Doctor Who - almost two decades after his last appearance.

Courtney, who can currently be seen as The Brigadier in the season finale of The Sarah Jane Adventures, told Doctor Who Magazine that he would savour the character returning to his parent show.

"That would be very nice," said the veteran actor, who first appeared as the UNIT icon in 1968. "Yes, I shall look forward to that. In my dreams."

Courtney also praised the current incarnation of Doctor Who, stating that "David Tennant has enormous charisma about him" and that "Russell T. [Davies] has done marvels".

‘Have we met before?” Elisabeth Sladen asks me as we walk to our seats for this interview.

Sadly not. My only encounter with her alter ego, Sarah Jane Smith – companion to three Doctor Whos in the ever-popular TV series – has been me watching her adventures on the small screen.

Although a massive fan of the sci-fi programme, much to the consternation of my work colleagues, I’ve never been to a convention or similar gatherings.

Although I cut my journalistic teeth interviewing the sixth Doctor Who, Colin Baker, for a children’s newspaper back in the 1980s, this is my first encounter with my favourite companion.

Beaming, Elisabeth says of me, the journalist, being a Doctor Who fan: “I knew there would be one.

"There’s always one somewhere.”

She continues to play interviewer as we sit down, genuinely interested in my love for the sci-fi show, asking me who my Doctor was (Tom Baker and Peter Davison) and laughing when telling her that the first time I ‘met’ Sarah Jane was reading a novelisation of Tom Baker’s first story, The Giant Robot.

Elisabeth doesn’t even look for the exit when I reveal that one of the inspirations for my daughter’s name came from her Doctor Who character, instead going, “How lovely!” and promising to sign an autograph for her later.

Nothing seems to phase her. I am smitten – and seven years old – once again.

This Christmas she is in Windsor, playing Mrs Darling in Peter Pan, and is looking forward to returning there as it’s a place she knows well thanks to her family.

The actress, who started her career doing rep in Liverpool, moved to London in the 1970s to find work.

“When relatives came from up north we’d take them to Harrods, Windsor … places they’d like to go to which have a historical meaning,” she says........read the rest of the interview here

Elisabeth Sladen has welcomed the return of Nicholas Courtney to the character of 'Brigadier' Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart for an upcoming Sarah Jane Adventures story.

"I was so pleased for him to be back," she told entertainment website Last Broadcast. "I don’t know how much I can give away - it’s a good one, a really good one."

Sladen did divulge that "for Sarah Jane to need The Brigadier, it must be a really dangerous situation. UNIT has certainly given him a wonderful pension, I can tell you that!"

Courtney first portrayed Lethbridge-Stewart in the 1968 Doctor Who story 'The Web Of Fear' and appeared regularly between 1970 and 1975. His last appearance came in the 1989 story 'Battlefield'.

Elisabeth Sladen has revealed that a third season of The Sarah Jane Adventures is being prepared.

"They’re writing it now, I believe," she told entertainment website Last Broadcast. "I’m very proud of the show, it’ll be lovely to do another series. And it’d be really lovely for the children... I mean ‘my co-stars’!"

The veteran actress, who first joined parent show Doctor Who in 1973, added that Yasmin Paige may not return to Sarah Jane as Maria Jackson.

"I’m not sure, Yasmin moved on to focus on her studies and Anjli’s [Mohindra] role has really settled in now - the new family have fitted in seamlessly," she said.

"Maybe it's safe fear, but it's done in a way that people can understand. It's caring for people, and doing your best, and having the right motive, but it's also fun, and it's about having adventures," she said.

New Sarah Jane Adventures star Anjli Mohindra purged her Facebook account in order to be a good role model for the show's younger viewers.

Mohindra, who plays Rani Chandra in the CBBC drama, told Doctor Who Magazine that she took "all the really bad photos of me off Facebook" upon landing the part, "in case any seven-year-olds find my profile".

The actress, 18, explained that she took the measures "because we had role models when we were that age - you looked up at Britney and suddenly there she was hanging out of a car with everything on show, and it really disappoints you".

The Sarah Jane Adventures writer Phil Ford has praised the villain in the opening second season story 'The Last Sontaran'.

"Commander Kaagh is the last survivor of the task force that attacked Earth in 'The Sontaran Stratagem'... [and] we haven't seen a Sontaran like this before," he told Doctor Who Magazine. "He's got a few tricks up his sleeve and he was just fantastic to write for."

"Personally I think he's the best Sontaran that we've ever seen in the Doctor Who world," Ford added, before describing Kaagh actor Anthony O'Donnell's performance as "fantastic... he is an amazing Sontaran".

Sarah Jane Smith is well acquainted with saving the world. An old friend and companion of the Doctor, Sarah Jane has travelled the universe, solving mysteries, tackling monsters and fighting alien foe all the way. Her travelling days may be behind her, but as a journalist with a nose for trouble, Sarah Jane often finds herself on amazing adventures closer to home. With the help of her adopted son, Luke, his best mate Clyde and their new neighbour Rani, along with her sonic lipstick, and the alien computer Mr Smith, she must defend Earth from extraterrestrial threats and monsters.

Luke Smith played by Thomas Knight

14-year-old Luke Smith looks just like any other normal teenage boy, but look closer and you'll see that he's very, very special. Grown by the alien Bane as The Archetype in their plan for world domination, Luke has the brain power of 10,000 people but, as he's only really a year or so old, his understanding of the world around him is sometimes lacking. But he's a fast learner, and his intelligence often proves key in saving the day.

Clyde Langer played by Daniel Anthony

Clyde Langer is 15, confident and the team joker, happiest when taking on aliens and monsters to save the planet. He lives with his mum, loves football, has a flair for art (which he keeps quiet cos it's not always seen as that cool) and has a healthy disrespect for authority. When teamed with Luke's intelligence, Rani's instincts and Sarah Jane's experience, the friends are a force to be reckoned with.

Rani Chandra played by Anjli Mohindra

15, inquisitive, smart and sassy. Wants to be a journalist, a sort of junior Sarah Jane, and thus idolises Sarah Jane just a little and in return, Sarah Jane takes her happily on her investigations. Gets on well with her parents, although she's always embarrassed that her dad is the new Head Teacher at Park Vale. Rani enjoys Luke's company because they're both quite bright and eager to learn. However, she's equally fond of Clyde because he's cool and a bit rebellious, and has charm.

Gita Chandra played by Mina Anwar

Rani's mum is a strong-willed, independent businesswoman, who runs her own flower shop called Bloomin' Lovely. Gita really likes Sarah Jane - she appreciates the fact she wants to help Rani be a journalist. Gita is a lovely person, although she can occasionally be a little overpowering and tends to burst into things uninvited and not take the hint that it's time to leave.

Haresh Chandra played by Ace Bhatti

The new Head Teacher of Park Vale and Rani's dad, he can be prone to slight pomposity, due to the authority at the school. A great cook, he adores Rani and is very pleased that she has befriended Luke Smith, whose intelligence he respects. He's decidedly less impressed by her friendship with Clyde, who he sees as trouble and so always has one watchful eye on his daughter and the other on Clyde.

When The Sarah Jane Adventures returns to BBC1 for a second series, there’ll be a new face in the regular cast. It’s GCSE year for young actress Yasmin Paige (Maria Jackson), so she’s bowing out. But Sarah Jane’s Scooby gang won’t be short-handed, since new girl Anjli Mohindra is stepping into the breach as Rani Chandra, who moves into the Jacksons’ old house with her parents (pictured left).

Craig gets some star treatment

DOCTOR Who fan Craig Haynes enjoyed a day on the set of spin-off series Sarah Jane Adventures.

When filming started at RAF St Athan, security guard Mal Haynes told the crew how much his son loved the programme.

Before he knew it, 10-year-old Craig was invited onto the set for a special tour and ended up spending the day with the crew.

The Aberllechau Junior School pupil met all the cast for a chat and autographs - he was even invited to watch the filming with director Graham Harper.

Mr Haynes, 45, of Bailey Street, Wattstown, said: “They spoilt him again - they gave him autographs, photographs, and other goodies.

“He was there from 7 o’clock in the morning until 6 o’clock at night.

“He watched the episodes as they were filming it.

“They look after him - they’re all as good as gold. He has been invited up their for the last four years. And the crew all know him by his first name now.”

Although the Sarah Jane Adventures team are close to completing filming for season two, on Friday they happened to be shooting some pick-ups for the second episode of the series. So I was able to watch as Maria and her Dad said their goodbyes to their friends, before leaving for a new life overseas...

Elisabeth Sladen was the consummate professional, coming over to chat with the assembled journos (sweating in the afternoon sun) and making sure that we were all being watered. After the shoot there was time to interview Lis, Tommy Knight (Luke Smith), Danny Anthony (Clyde Langer) and new girl Anjli Mohindra, who plays Rani Chandra (a girl whose family moves into Maria's old house).......read full story here
